Shock-Absorbers (2025)
This sculpture tries to capture feeling like the suspension system in the family: absorbing the shocks on the bumpy road of having small children. This isn’t about the kids, they are amazing, it’s more about the mothers: what I’m seeing, hearing and feeling around me on the daily school runs year after year and the intensity of what is being carried. The tethered aspect of the work simply acknowledges the feeling of being fixed in the family unit, which I wouldn’t change, but can feel intense at times.
Made with help from my dad who welded the eyelets into the base plate, Jim at NYA garage for the coil spring from an old car and WORR fabricators for the base plate.
