David Hall (Nostalia Kid) and I went out for a coffee and a walk in February 26 to chat for The Newcastle Project. Below is my instagram post text. I prefer being on the other end of the camera but I love these photographs, thanks Dave.
RACHAEL DEE BRIEN
Hi! I’m Rachael and I’m an artist.
I am pattern-obsessed and, through the colours red and blue, create a visual language to communicate my ideas or feelings.
My career hopes at 18 were: dance teacher or barrister. I went down the latter route initially but a few years into practice realised it wasn’t for me. Advocacy runs through my creative work but equally I find myself wanting to be in the mix of live performance as much as possible.
At the moment, I’m looking back at my old photographs (and making new ones): reconnecting with ideas of support, previous use and future use, another’s hand, making things work and holding stuff together.
I’d love to work with a music artist to make artwork with them.
Huge thanks to Helix Arts and The Newbridge Project for helping me to step over the line and be an artist in the real world.
