Mistaken Nostalgia

My work references two separate incidents where participants of the Raise the Colours Operation mistakenly used a flag resembling the Danish flag and the Georgian flag instead of the St. George's Cross flag. The postcard-size work, being a nod to the nostalgia tied up in this movement, seeks to challenge the purported patriotism behind flying the flags. Often hung at half-mast, it is not clear whether these flags are supposed to represent the traditional symbol of mourning. If it is, then I believe it goes beyond patriotism and creates a message in a public space that not everyone agree with.
